Built by Kubit Motorsport in Poland, the “Speedster K20” is an Opel Speedster powered by a 550 horsepower turbo K-series engine.
At Glass Fuses, we are familiar with the GRIDLIFE Time Attack series here in the United States. That same form of motorsport is alive and well in Europe. Across the ocean, it is called Track Masters, and is set up fairly similar to Gridlife and Super Lap Battle with power to weight classes that range from mostly stock to very far from stock.
As it stands, this Polish built Opel has the fastest time of any Lotus/Opel at the Poznan Circuit race track in Przeźmierowo, Poland. The car has also has seen a tremendous evolution over the years.
Driven by Mateusz Owczynnikow, the “Speedster K20” is one of the cars entered into the 2023 series. As you can tell by the name, a lot has changed from the Ecotec powered Opel Speedster that started as the base of this car.
The K20 powerplant in this car started off as supercharged, but then became turbocharged in the pursuit of more power. Now making about 550 horsepower, it its mated to a Quaife sequential transmission with paddle shifters. Better yet, the chassis is fully built, with custom suspension and even more impressive wheels and tires. The wheel and tire (and brake) setup is from an F2 car. There aren’t too many other cars that have accomplished this retrofit. The bodywork is light weight, too, at only 30 KG. And it’ll look like a Lotus Exige GT3 car.
For 2023, the time attack championship will have 8 rounds at tracks all across Europe. Most Autodrome is the first and last event of the season, with Lausitz Ring, Slovaka Ring, Silesia Ring, BRNO Circuit, Poznan Circuit, and Hungaroring rounding out the calendar.
