Old Fire Station Makes For Ultimate Live-In Garage

fire station

One bedroom, one bathroom, three car garage. Turns out a fire station is just about the coolest real estate conversion we’ve ever seen.

We all know the housing market is kinda messed up right now. Interest rates are bananas and prices are still through the roof. But occasionally a house pops up that’s so cool, that we have to take a long look and consider it. We present to you, an old fire station.

Thanks to Zillow, we found a great option for gear-heads, but it is kinda in the middle of nowhere. Rock City, Illinois is a small town to the north west of Rockford with a population of less than 300. But you could add to that census number with this awesome converted fire station. Considering this building dates from 1960, we can guarantee that fire trucks parked in those bays contained Glass Fuses. So we’re interested already.

Three garage bays greet you at the front of the house. All of the living quarters are situated at the rear of the house. From the garage area, double doors open up to a wide, open floor plan. Probably so you can take a glance at your cars while you’re watching the giant curved TV.

Everything is open, including the bedroom, but we suppose with it being a one-bedroom, one bathroom arrangement, this will be someone’s bachelor pad. And if you look closely, the renovation of space is about 97% complete.

But with a humble abode for living quarters, that means the rest of the 1500 square ft of livable space is occupied by the garage floor plan.

While not quite tall enough to put lifts in, this garage work space is great for someone who wants to simply tinker on their own car at “home.” And it’s simply cool to have such a creative re-use of space. And if you’re a fan of red-cars, this house is perfect for you.
