Porsche Design Wants 358 Dollars For An Oil Filter That Doesn’t Work

Porsche has been known to ask you for more money when they offer less, but this Porsche Design oil filter takes the cake.

Porsche people are unique. Their loyalty to the brand is almost obsessive, and for a good reason. But Porsche is very well aware of this phenomenon. The proof is in the relentless release of new limited edition models, because they know they will sell out. 911R, 911 GT3, Cayman GT4, 911 S/T. They fly out of showrooms… Most of the time they actually sell out before they are even built.

Porsche also thinks the same thing will work for trinkets. Take for example this Porsche Design spotlight. It’s made from a genuine Porsche oil filter. And because of that, it’s $358 dollars. We think they missed the opportunity to price it at $356… But anyway, some LED lightss are in it so thats why its expensive.  Translated: Porsche is happy to sell you an oil filter that doesn’t filter oil at all… At a price that is 1,708% higher than a functional oil filter. Have to give porsche credit for this, because some devotee will simply have to have it.

And it’s not just a light. It’s a spotlight. So naturally you’ll need something made by porsche to highlight with your spotlight. Perhaps you want to bring attention to your $2,300 Porsche 911 brake and rotor clock.

That last price has us thinking: can you actually find a collector car Porsche for the same price (or less) than a piece of Porsche Design art? We hopped on some market place websites and found the answer is still a resounding “yes.” It might not be a 911, but 944, 928, 986, and 914 options are out there if you look hard enough. The condition of these cars ranges from very rough to incomplete projects, to some cars that just need a little help to get running right.  It might even come with a working oil filter.
